In their first, of two, matchups for the regular season, Hayleigh LeTourneau's Newfound takes game one. When the top two ranked D3 teams met Friday afternoon, it was nothing short of a game you would want to watch, and come the end of October, it would be no surprise seeing them fighting each other for a title.
Gilford got out fast scoring 90 seconds into the game, as Jill Lachapelle assisted Bri Salanitro. Ten minutes later Julianne Marchand assisted D3's top freshman, Jasmine Peterson, to tie it up. It seemed like the game would go into halftime tied, but Caroline Marchand found a loose ball in front of the net to take a 2-1 halftime lead, with ten seconds to go.
Julianne Marchand would tally a goal, assisted by Kaylan SantaMaria, to take a 3-1 lead, five minutes into the second half. With 13 minutes to go Gilford scored to cut the deficit to one, but a controversial call from the officials, pulled the goal back, saying the ball, according to them, never left the circle, on a corner. From there, the game ended 3-1, with LeTourneau's defense stopping Kellie Ryan's offense, keeping Newfound perfect on the season.
The two match-up again on October 6, about a week-and-a-half before the tournament begins.
