D3 First Round Recap & D2 Quarterfinals Predictions.

Gilford 2, Pembroke 0

Gilford finally made us right on one of our covered game predictions, as they came away with a victory. The game was scoreless in the first half, Gilford earned five corners to Pembroke's two, but neither team could convert. Gilford's best chance came when they had an open net, far post, but a Pembroke defender was there to clear it off the line.

Ten minutes into the second half, Laurel Gingrich broke through, to put Gilford on top 1-0. The game remained 1-0 until Bri Salanitro scored with eight seconds to go, to take a 2-0 lead. Pembroke had a few opportunities, but for the most part were kept at bay by Gilford's defense, as Gilford did not let Pembroke put a shot on goal.

Gilford may not have scored seven like they did when the teams met in the regular season, but Gilford was in control for a majority of the game. The most exciting part of the game was when, Gilford goalie, Jenna Delucca, cleared a ball, and sent it about 30-40 feet into the air.

Gilford now hosts Berlin, on Sunday afternoon.

We do hope Pembroke Head Coach Aimee Monterio decides to stick with the program. She has turned a team around, that has been at the bottom of D3 for a while. Are they a powerhouse, to be honest, not even close, but they have challenged the teams in D3 that normally would run them over, and have had a good season for their program.

Winnisquam 2, Mascenic 0

Winnisquam plays top tranked Newfound in their quarterfinal matchup.

Berlin 4, Bow 0

Berlin has to now take a two hour bus ride south to play Gilford, Sunday afternoon.

Mascoma 1, Stevens 0

Katie Pushee scored the game's only goal, off a rebound, as she pulled Mascoma by Stevens. Mascoma had no corners the whole game and put seven shots on goal.

Mascoma will have to play Abbey Bevens and Pelham on Sunday afternoon, for their quarterfinal matchup.

Monadnock 4, Newport 0

Bri Broderick picked up two goals, leading Monadnock past Newport. Caitlyn Boucher and Hannah LaBarre scored the other two.

Monadnock will host Bishop Brady, Sunday afternoon.

Bishop Brady 2, Hopkinton 1

Kathryn Weed scored off a corner, with no time left in the first half, to tie the game. Abby Shagena scored the game winner, and her fourth of the season, as Bishop Brady shocked Hopkinton.

Bishop Brady will travel to Monadnock on Sunday afternoon, for their quarterfinal matchup.

D2 Quarterfinals Predictions.

  • Portsmouth v. Souhegan - Prediction: Souhegan. If Portsmouth pulls off another upset, they will probably win the same way they beat Goffstown. Put one in, and Vogel keeps them alive. The only difference this time is Vogel is facing the state's best offense. Vogel will have to be at her very best if Portsmouth has a chance to win.
  • Kingswood v. Hanover - Prediction: Hanover. Hanover's pace should be too much for Kingswood to handle. Kingswood has had a good season, but they have only played one of the top teams and were blanked by Derryfield, 3-0.
  • Plymouth v. Windham - Prediction: Windham. Much like Souhegan, Windham's scoring power should overpower Plymouth. Plymouth has been able to hold their own this season against the top teams, but with a 90-minute bus ride, and Kate Blaisdell leading Windham's offense, Windham should be able to advance to the Final Four.
  • Kennett v. Derryfield - Prediction: Derryfield. When the two met twice in the regular season, both times Derryfield came out on top 2-1. Their second matchup, at Derryfield, was probably the most controversial game of the season, with two goals being questionable. Derryfield did dominate the position game as they usually do, but the most significant factor will be Lindsey Stagg, anytime she is on the field you cannot bet against her team, because she can take over games, and she is almost impossible to defend.
