Lindsey Stagg Wins AAU Junior Olympics' Gold Medal!

From August 1-3, 2017, AAU hosted their annual Junior Olympic Games, with field hockey being one of their featured sports, in partner with USA Field Hockey.

The games were hosted at the Detroit Country Day School, in Beverly Hills, Michigan.

Six teams were each made up of 17 athletes from around the country. The teams played a pool play format; then the top 2 teams battled it out for the championship.

New Hampshire had two representatives at the event, Derryfield's Lindsey Stagg and NH resident Maddie DiPietro. St. Paul's Josie Varney was also selected to compete but was unable to attend.

Stagg and DiPietro ended up playing each other in the gold medal game. DiPietro's team scored first, off a corner but weren't able to hold on to the lead, as Stagg's team was able to retake the lead off of two corners before the first half ended. The game went scoreless in the second half, as Stagg's team would win it 2-1.

Stagg's team went undefeated, posting a 5-0-1 (W-L-T) record and outscoring their opponents 10-6.

Stagg and DiPietro represented New Hampshire to the fullest bringing home a gold and silver medal!
